At the apple orchard, you can enjoy a day filled with activities and goodies  for the whole family. Many apple orchards are family-owned with a strong sense of tradition, which makes them a great place to spend a fun filled day with your family and friends. Some activities offered at various orchards include weekend festivals, hayrides, playgrounds and petting zoos.  Some also offer, fresh baked apple donuts,  jams, pies, apple crisps, honey, maple syrup, vegetables, pumpkins, wagon rides and gift shops, U picking apples in Maine is a fun family day event for all ages.

If you visit an orchard that presses its own cider, you may have the opportunity to witness an apple-pressing demonstration.

During a visit to an apple orchard on a warm day, you may want to enjoy a light picnic lunch. Depending on the orchard, they may offer snacks on-site, or you may need to pack your own. Most orchards will have a picnic area or a nice area under the apple trees with majestic views, where you can relax while you eat. After your picnic treat yourselves to a slice of fresh baked apple pie with a scoop of ice cream to help keep everyone cool.

Bed and Breakfast Maine

Posted on: August 11th, 2010 by Ray Deleo

Summer is halfway gone and now is the best time to visit Southern Maine’s Premier Beach (Old Orchard Beach) with its seven miles of white sandy beach.

Most people who visit the Atlantic Birches Inn a Southern Maine Bed and Breakfast in Old Orchard beach  spend a few nights here, then travel on to their next destination (to the North or South), for additional day’s.  Old Orchard Beach is about a 90 minute drive North from Boston, and about a three hour drive North to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  We also have guests that will spend their entire Getaway or vacation here at our Bed and Breakfast Maine.

While in Old Orchard Beach, we suggest visits to several of the local area  must see Maine Lighthouses, all are easy to visit and provide beautiful views, also dining at one of Maine’s Top Ten Lobster Shacks nestled on Maine Coasts. Wolf neck State park, Bradbury Mountain State park, Scarborough Marsh, and the Rachael Carson Wild Life Preserve offer hiking trails and wonderful vistas, There are many art galleries and museums, antique shops, wooden covered bridges, Waterfalls and Swimming Holes, historic homes, wineries, whale watching, boat tours, any many quaint fishing villages, all worth exploring.

If you have more than a few nights, we can suggest itineraries and travel ideas, for each day of activities based in Old Orchard Beach Maine. Nevertheless, we have many guests say when leaving they had so much fun and there was so much to see and do here, that they will just have to come back again do the things they didn’t get a chance to do or see.

Taking a one week getaway or vacation we could suggest activities around the area that would keep you busy the entire time. However, if you want to see more of Maine, we would suggest spending four or five days here in this Old Orchard Beach Lodging, and then another 3 or 4 days either in the northern pats of Maine (Bar Harbor or Acadia National park) or the Western part of the state where their are lakes and mountains (Baxter State Park or Moose Head Lake) and a good chance of seeing moose in their natural habitat.

Now is the time to firm up those last minute Summer and early Fall Vacation plans!  The traditionally busy weekends are either full or filling fast, but some holidays – Labor Day Weekend – September 3 – 6 and Columbus Day Weekend Oct 8 - 10 for instance still have rooms available.  we look forward to making our home feel like your home away from home.
